Secret # 4- Get rid of clutter!
Let’s face it, we all have a special place in our homes where we like to collect “junk”. After time, it seems that the “junk” area has grown into a small room and possibly has made it’s way to the living room, kitchen, bathroom etc.. We may not even noticed it since it is our “junk”, however, when a buyer prospect walks through they will notice it and it could make the room feel small to the prospect. Buyers want the room to feel spacious not cramped.
A simple way to make a room feel larger is to de-clutter! Pack up the “trinkets”, go through closets and get rid of clothes you haven’t worn in 6 months, make sure all those dreaded stacks of paper have been filed or shredded. We understand that this is a lot of work, but the faster you pack it up the faster you get an offer on you home! Then before you know it you will be unpacking your “trinkets” in your new home. If you have limited room on where to put everything you just packed, we recommend renting a storage unit until your home sells. A garage sale is always a good idea and a great way to make a little extra moolah!
I have a 4 year old, she loves to draw pictures and make things at school, I have kept every single thing that she has made. I keep them in a pretty box that sits in the living room. I also have her art on the refrigerator but when the time comes to sell my house, I will remove all art and place it in that box until we move into our new house. I always tell clients, ” We LOVE our children’s art but buyers could care less about it.” They want to see the house not the turkey made out of painted feet and glitter.
WHEN IN DOUBT-PACK IT UP!!!!!
This process may be the hardest for you. Putting these things away is like taking memories and shoving them in the box but they will not stay there forever, I promise! Hedstrom & Stamm Home Solutions specializes in this, we can come to your home and give you a consultation on what you could do to get your home market ready!
Hope you all have a great day!
